Anonymous Textile Design Series, Mulhouse, Alsace, 1840
Anonymous textile prototypes, Mulhouse, Alsace, c.1840. Rectilinear design sheets generated within the industrial print studios of the Haut-Rhin. Each document encodes surface strategies for mass deployment—pearl rows, abstract chromatic fields, simulated resist-dye grounds. Executed as precision studies for repeat application, they reflect Mulhouse’s role as a nineteenth-century vector hub of textile innovation and print chemistry.

stone island navigation series [reinvent the wheel] by liam macrae
Stone Island’s Navigation Series: Reinvent the Wheel, photographed by Liam MacRae, is part of the brand’s ongoing study of orientation and movement. The work frames navigation as both physical and symbolic—referencing terrain, direction, and systems of guidance. Within the series, “Reinvent the Wheel” emphasizes reinterpreting established structures of travel and perception, continuing Stone Island’s research into exploration and the mechanics of wayfinding.

Lightning Archives Military Jackets (revised edition)
Lightning Archives Military Jackets (revised edition) is a reference volume that assembles hundreds of vintage military jackets—from field coats to flight and bomber styles—into a 242-page photographic index, printed in Japan. Each garment is reduced to front, back, and detail shots, annotated with brief data about model, era, and origin, turning decades of conflict and logistics into orderly rows of fabric, hardware, and serial numbers. The revised edition simply expands and updates this taxonomy, confirming that uniforms designed for war now circulate as images and commodities, stripped of purpose, filed away as another closed chapter in a series of collectible books.

Invisible: Abbott Thayer and the Art of Camouflage
Abbott H. Thayer is now best known for his portraiture and paintings of angels, such as this one from 1887 held by the Smithsonian American Art Museum. He was also obsessed with nature, particularly how animals could disappear through their color patterns into a landscape.
Thayer identified two visual phenomena undergirding this invisibility: “obliterative countershading” and “disruptive patterning.” In the first, animal skins achieve an illusion of monochrome flatness via coloration darkest in sunlit parts and lightest in areas generally bathed in shadows: examples include the light bellies of otherwise dark rabbit coats or the silver undersides of sharks. The resulting visual compression of a three-dimensional form produces an illusion of monochrome flatness. The second principle takes this illusion to the next level of protective concealment: mottled patterns corresponding to the animal’s habitat disrupt the contours of its flat silhouette, resulting in an impression of not being there.
Troya by Gordon von Steiner
Gordon von Steiner’s “Troya” is a visually striking short film set in the Troieshchyna neighborhood of Kyiv, known for its stark Soviet-era architecture. The film explores themes of urban isolation and resilience through a series of compelling and gritty vignettes. Von Steiner’s direction captures the raw and unembellished aesthetics of Troieshchyna, highlighting its dense clusters of monotonous apartment buildings and the lives of its residents. The film juxtaposes the area’s bleak physical environment with moments of unexpected beauty and humanity, creating a powerful narrative that resonates with the viewer .

Junior M.A.F.I.A.
The members of Junior M.A.F.I.A. met as childhood friends of The Notorious B.I.G. All the members were under the age of twenty when the group was formed. The group was composed of three separate groups and two individual artists. The 6s, or 666, (Lil' Caesar, Bugsy, Capone, Chico, and Nino Brown) who claim to know right from wrong and practice it; the Sixes knew Biggie before he was rapping (the other members other than Lil' Kim were added on to the group but still were very close to Biggie). The Snakes (cousins Larceny and Trife) who represent the enraged attitude expressed in a large number of America’s youth, MC Klepto, who offered insight on a life of “boostin' and hustlin'”, and Lil' Kim, (a.k.a Big Momma or The Lieutenant), the only female in the group, who showed the ghetto life from a woman’s point of view. The Notorious B.I.G. acted as the "godfather" to the group.

DPM PEACE CRANE OPERATION
created by urban demographics / original concept by UCCI for droppin' lyrics
In the Age of Hawk vs. Dove, the Crane Rises
Operation Peace Crane is a grassroots project designed to spread the the Origami Peace Crane throughout the physical and cyber world. Since its invention centuries ago, with roots dating back even further, the paper crane has been by far the most popular fold, and has come to symbolize peace around the world. Most notably, thousand-linked cranes are delivered to atomic bomb sites and Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as the need for a nuclear-free, peaceful world becomes more relevant yet.
Normally, origami cranes are folded using colorful origami paper, and traditional patterns. We hereby propose a new movement by spreading the crane with camouflage patterns of military around the world. Using the camouflage on the cranes represents the irony of war and peace that are inherent in our society, as if one cannot exist without the other. Today, we must confront the stark reality that the military complex is a worldwide industry, sponsored by the government (not to mention tax payers), which in turn supports the lifestyles of the unassuming public. We must not forget that we share equal responsibility in the proliferation of arms in the world today . We also understand that the mere presence of military force overseas alarm the foreign citizens and governments, instead of stabilizing politically volatile areas. Upon further introspection into the history of camouflage, its evolution and adaptation of design to the ever-changing political balance is parallel to the way humans have adjusted to the economical needs of the world, only to stray away from values of nature, ironically. It must also be noted that the camouflage patterns used herein do not represent any political messages, except for those calling for immediate and everlasting peace.
Reality is not immutable like a rock, rather it is dynamic like water. Although it may be a strong force, we can shape the future by taking part in it, no matter how small the drop. We sincerely hope that this project, done literally by the hands of the people, would reach the hearts of those who desperately seek peace, as we speak. Lastly, the only way to reach true peace will not come from agitated fear, but from true knowledge and inner peace.

Martian Sunset
On May 19, 2005, NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit captured this stunning view as the Sun sank below the rim of Gusev crater on Mars. This Panoramic Camera mosaic was taken around 6:07 in the evening of the rover's 489th Martian day, or sol.
Sunset and twilight images are occasionally acquired by the science team to determine how high into the atmosphere the Martian dust extends, and to look for dust or ice clouds. Other images have shown that the twilight glow remains visible, but increasingly fainter, for up to two hours before sunrise or after sunset. The long Martian twilight (compared to Earth's) is caused by sunlight scattered around to the night side of the planet by abundant high altitude dust. Similar long twilights or extra-colorful sunrises and sunsets sometimes occur on Earth when tiny dust grains that are erupted from powerful volcanoes scatter light high in the atmosphere.
